Singularity Academy Mental Health Webinar: Dealing with stressful thoughts

This research explores the psychological mechanisms and interventions associated with distressing thoughts, a common but often misunderstood contributor to psychological and emotional distress. Based on a series of lectures by Doctor-medic. Mild, Chief Physician at the Verus Bonifatius Clinic, this paper explores the dynamics of distressing thoughts, their interaction with emotions and their impact in different contexts, such as parent-child relationships and the workplace.

The focus is on the role of cognitive defusion and mindfulness as key techniques to reduce the conflation with distressing thoughts and promote emotional resilience. Through practical examples and therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance and Committent Therapy (ACT), this work provides a framework for effectively addressing these challenges.
