COMPULSIVE DISORDERS

AT THE VERUS BONIFATIUS CLINIC

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a serious mental illness that strongly affects the patient’s daily life. The patients develop compulsive actions and thoughts. Although this triggers an inner tension in them, they regard these as rituals of their everyday life. Most sufferers are aware of the irrationality of their problems, but are unable to control them on their own.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES FOR OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDERS

As with many other mental illnesses, treatment for OCD also emphasises a combination of different treatments and measures. In addition to individually adapted medication for those affected, behavioural therapy or mindfulness training can also be carried out. Since obsessive-compulsive disorder is a chronic disorder that is unlikely to be completely cured, sufferers can also attend self-help groups or complete muscle relaxation training sessions that offer them inner peace.

DIAGNOSIS OF A COMPULSIVE DISORDER

As soon as therapists consider the possibility that a patient is affected by OCD, a comprehensive medical history is taken in a consultation with the doctor. Here, possible symptoms are asked about in order to be able to take the medical history. In doing so, the therapists can be guided by different criteria that are specifically classified for the anamnesis of mental disorders.
